When consumers expressed what they wanted in a midsize SUV, Dodge didn’t roll over and ignore it.  The good people at Chrysler shot up, listened and produced.  Because of that, the Dodge Nitro recently won AutoPacific’s Vehicle Satisfaction Award.

This Award is an industry standard for gauging how satisfied an owner is with their new automobile purchase.  This study by the Southern California-based automotive research firm summarizes the results of over 42,000 new vehicle owners.

The winners of this award are judged in 48 separate categories that objectively measure the ownership experience.  Also in the winning circle was the Dodge Ram, which won for the best Heavy Duty pickup.

The all-new Dodge Nitro lineup has been revised and renamed for 2010, offering new exterior and interior styling and new standard features and safety and security equipment for 2010.

Dodge has chosen three names  for its new models: Heat, Detonator and Shock.

The Heat adds 20 inch aluminum wheel, the Detonator has platinum-clad aluminum wheels and the Shock has premium-painted wheels.  All have body-color grille with bright billets, sunscreen glass and monochromatic exterior paint.

Other cars will feel the Heat with the Dodge Nitro Heat’s incredible 3.7-liter V-6 engine that delivers 201 HP and 235 lb- ft of torque, while the Dodge Nitro Detonator makes the other SUVs eat dust with 23 percent more HP and 12% more torque.  These models have a standard aluminum 4.0-liter overhead cam V-6 engine which delivers them to 260 HP and 265 lb – ft of torque, all with a convenient five-speed automatic transmission.

You will feel rest assured that you are safe because the 2010 Nitro – like nine other Dodge vehicles – earned a Five-Star government frontal-impact crash test safety rating and has features like energy absorbing crush zones, driver and front-passenger advanced multistage airbags. supplemental side-curtain airbags.  That is just to name a few.

In explaining the reasons for the award, Motor Trend explains, “Despite the effects of the Great Recession on personal-use truck sales, there is still demand for pickups ready to do hard work. The heavy-duty truck market has gotten smaller, but the guys who buy those pickups are fiercely loyal to the segment-they need the extreme capability these hard-working haulers provide.”

With that in mind, they praise the Ram for its 17,500-pound towing capacity, a passenger cabin they called “the best in its class,” and how easy the big Ram is to drive even when towing. “What is so impressive about the heavy-duty Ram is not only how easily it does all the tasks it’s built for, but also how easy it is on the driver,” MT writes.

Despite the effects of the recession on personal-use truck sales, there is still a great demand for pickups ready to do hard work.
