The Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan are the only minivans on the market with accident-avoidance safety features such as Rear Cross Path and Blind-spot Monitoring to warn drivers of oncoming vehicles that they might not see.

Blind-spot Monitoring

Dual ultra-wideband radar sensors aid the driver when changing lanes or when being passed by or passing unseen vehicles. The system notifies the driver via illuminated icons on the side-view mirror and/or with a driver-selected audible chime.

Rear Cross Path (RCP)

In parking lot situations, RCP drivers backing out of parking spaces of traffic moving toward their vehicle. The driver is notified of vehicle(s) crossing behind the vehicle via an illuminated side view mirror icon and with an audible chime.

Parkview Rear Back-up Camera

Using a wide-angle view of the area immediately behind the vehicle, Parkview gives the driver greater peace of mind before backing up. It also aids in lining up a trailer to the vehicle’s trailer hitch, when so equipped. The image automatically displays on the navigation screen when the transmission is shifted into reverse.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

ESC enhances driver control and helps maintain directional stability under all conditions. It provides the greatest benefit in critical driving situations such as turns, and is especially valuable when driving on mixed-surface conditions such as snow, ice or gravel. If there’s a discernible difference between what the driver asks through the steering wheel and the vehicle’s path, ESC applies selective braking and throttle input in order to guide the vehicle back onto the driver’s intended path.

SmartBeam^® headlamps

Intelligent headlamp system adjusts to ambient light and oncoming traffic in order to deliver maximum lighting.

Smart Brake

Chrysler Group began implementing the smart brake in 2003. When a disagreement exists between the throttle and the brake, the brake signal causes the engine controller to reduce engine power, allowing the operator to stop the car.

I am an independent woman.  I don’t have children (yet), I live in the city, I like fancy cars, upscale restaurants and things like camping, hiking, shopping and exploring.  I didn’t think I was a Mini Van type of person, no matter the circumstance.  In fact, I am pretty sure I have used the exact phrase, “I will NEVER own a Mini Van.”

Then I drove home the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and the image I had of myself was shattered.  In fact, it made me want to go rent a family and drive them around.  I weirdly had fantasies of picking the kids up from soccer practice and school.  This is not because my ‘cool’ factor is lessened; it is because the Grand Caravan is not your mother’s Mini Van.  It is cute, roomy, comfortable and HIP!!!
I had just got back from a trip and came directly into work from the airport and still had my luggage.  As much as I’d like to think I pack responsibly, for some reason this short little trip left me with 3 huge suitcases.  They didn’t make a dent in the roominess in the rear, where the third row seat is neatly tucked away.  In fact, I could have put 8 more suitcases, a tent, a cooler, a BBQ…you get the idea.
The look of the Grand Caravan has changed.  It is more sleek and endearing.   The angles are more aggressive, the chrome is shinier and the inside is amazing.   The first thing I noticed was how much leg room I had and how when I held on to the wheel, I felt like I was driving a bus.  There is so much room in the center section that I could truly have a little party, complete with a stow away table to set our drinks and food.

The ride was incredibly smooth and handled beautifully it the wacky Northwest spring weather.  During the 20 mile drive into the city, I experienced a massive rain storm, followed by a huge hail downpour, followed by completely sunny skies.  I have never felt more secure or safe then driving through it all in the Caravan.  I was actually surprised by how easy the drive was, at one point I looked down at the speedometer thinking I was doing 60 and I was actually going 80.  Hopefully my boss isn’t reading this and I don’t condone it, keep in mind the kids in the back seat were fictional.
